2013 Kansas Upland Game Seasons
The 2013 upland game seasons are approaching quickly. Wingshooters should dust off that hunting vest and stock up on shotshells.
The regular pheasant season runs November 9, 2013, to January 31, 2014. As usual, the daily bag limit is four cocks; the limit during the November 2-3 youth season is two cocks.
Pheasant hunters must keep a foot or plumage attached to field dressed birds that will be transported. The proof of sex is required if stopped by law enforcement or at a hunter checkpoint station.
The quail season runs the same dates, but the daily bag limits are eight and four for the regular and youth seasons, respectively.
Some prairie chicken hunters are already in the field this season with the early season in the East and Northwest zones. The season dates and ranges vary by zones, but most parts of the state of Kansas have a range of November 16, 2013, to January 31, 2014, with a two bird bag limit. The Southwest zone, however, has a one bird bag limit.
Prairie chicken hunters should see the Kansas Hunting & Furharvesting Regulations Summary 2013 booklet for specific information, including a zone map. Additionally, a $2.50 permit is required for prairie chicken hunters on top of license fee.
In Kansas, hunters will find easy access to hunter information and license purchasing. Nearly everywhere hunting supplies and firearms are sold, including discount stores and sporting goods stores, hunters can purchase the required licenses and permits, and they can obtain free copies of the hunting regulations booklet and the 2013 Fall Hunting Atlas.
If hunters have an operating printer, all licenses and permits can be purchased online at http://www.kdwpt.state.ks.us.
