Best Kansas Pheasant Hunt Locations for Your Bachelor Party

What Makes a Great Bachelor Party Hunting Location

Great bachelor hunting locations come with a combination of high-action hunts and all-inclusive amenities. Pheasant hunts are ideal because they keep the whole group engaged consistently. This type of hunt allows for a mix of experienced and novice hunters. Look for outfitters that offer loaner guns, ammunition and manage the logistics. A lodge with amenities such as a fire pit, satellite TV or poker tables is ideal for after-hunt activities.

Strong bird numbers and managed habitat

Kansas has a reputation for strong bird numbers and managed habitat. Good outfitters manage habitat like thick CRP fields, shelterbelts with cover and food plots like milo, sorghum and corn. These all give pheasants a reason to stick around. Look for outfitters that emphasize management and have consistent success each season.

Private land access vs crowded public ground

If you’ve hunted public land, you know the cons outweigh the pros. Trucks are usually parked at every access point and opening weekend can feel like a parade. Instead of competing with other groups, book with an outfitter. Birds hold better on private land because they aren’t pressured as much. On private land you set the pace based on group experience. Guides make your life 10 times easier by controlling dogs, accessing fields and understanding pheasant behavior.

Lodging and group-friendly setup

Bachelor parties aren’t just about the hunt. It’s about where you land after the hunt. Good lodging makes a big difference. Look for pool tables, poker tables or a nice outdoor area with a firepit. Evenings tend to settle into the same routine, food, drinks and stories, all in the same place.

Why 10 Gauge Outfitters Is the Best Kansas Pheasant Hunt Location

At 10 Gauge, our focus is pretty straightforward, put clients on birds and ensure their stay is second to none. With private lodging options and private ground, we are able to accomplish this.

Private land with consistent bird action

Our land is managed with intention. It’s rotated and hunted with some restraint. Fields aren’t burnt out early in the season like most public grounds are. If one piece of ground is hunted our guides wait awhile until they hit it again. Some thick cattail walks retain birds a lot better than those with lighter cover. The field setup isn’t random, there are edges and cut strips to ensure it can be covered by your group size.

Lodge experience built for groups

Our lodges focus on the group experience. We have room 26 guests along with a 2-bed bunkhouse if needed. For those looking to stay on track with their workout routine we have a fitness room. Our leather recliners are great for relaxing after a day in the field. Outside you will find a covered porch with an outdoor kitchen and fireplace. Meals are part of the whole experience too and our chef is the best in the area providing top notch meals.

Guided hunts that keep everyone involved

The whole point of a guided hunt is to keep everyone involved. Guides help with this by planning the day and directing walkers/blockers. Everyone has a role and these roles can change from walk to walk. Those walking the first field may block the next. If one person has fewer opportunities than the next your guide will put you in the right spot to get some more action.

What a Bachelor Party Hunt at 10 Gauge Actually Looks Like

A bachelor party at 10 Gauge doesn’t require a lot of planning. We take care of the logistics so your job is to show up and enjoy the action.

Morning hunts, meals, and downtime

Mornings start early with coffee and breakfast. Earlier in the day birds find cover after feeding around sunrise.  This time of day comes with a lot of action as birds are holding tighter, the dogs are fresh and everyone’s excited for the day. Midday may slow down a little, but this is the perfect time to head back for lunch. After lunch the birds become a little more active, especially if the weather is decent. It’s a good time to go back out and fill your limit.

Dogs, guides, and full-service experience

Hunting with an outfitter comes with more perks than one may initially think. Dogs are trained and handled by professional guides. The fields are planned based on bird movement and weather conditions. After your birds are harvested, they get cleaned and packaged for transport. Each meal is prepared for you. Your job is to shoot your birds and enjoy the group you came with.

Planning Your Pheasant Hunting Bachelor Party

Our pheasant season starts from the second Saturday in November through the end of January. The season is short so start planning earlier than you think. Dates fill up quickly, especially weekends. Figure out your group size, contact us with any questions, book your dates and your flights.

Gear-wise, keep it simple. Bring a shotgun you’re comfortable with, plenty of shells, comfortable boots and layers. Kansas weather in November and December range from 30-50 degrees with cool morning temperatures. By January highs stay around 20-30 degrees.
