Deer Herd Numbers July 2012 Update
Whitetail Hunting Forecast – Midwest Whitetails
Kansas deer population numbers are looking good right now here in Kinsley. Our recent morning trips to and from the prairie dog fields, we have been seeing a very steady amount of whitetail does with two and three fawns. Despite our shortage of rain fall this last month the fawns are looking very healthy and carrying good weight. Our alfalfa has been great this year and the deer are taking advantage of it.
With our strict deer feeding program here, we are contemplating on supplementing our deer with year round feeding. This will not only help improve the health of our Kansas deer population for our region, but it will also help produce larger trophy whitetails. This will also help provide better genetics in the field for our future generations of whitetails.
The Rio Grande turkey poults have been running around every where, a very encouraging sight to see for our turkey hunters. This is one of the best years I have seen as far as sheer numbers of young turkey sightings. Keep checking back for more updates on how our turkey hunts progress throughout the season.
Hope every one is have a great summer. Hope to see you in 10 Gauge camp soon,
