What This Year Will Look Like – 2025

The 2025 Kansas Whitetail Hunting Season suggests a stable and healthy whitetail population. Clients can anticipate favorable conditions with the potential to encounter deer scoring between 160” and over 200”. Our conservation efforts over the years provide for an unparalleled whitetail hunt.

Abundant Whitetail Populations:

With plenty of food sources, including soybeans, corn, and natural forage, Kansas whitetails have the nutrition needed to reproduce and grow impressive antlers.

Optimal Hunting Windows:

Our 2-3 acre food plots attract and sustain a high concentration of deer throughout both the pre-rut and post-rut seasons. Sitting all day increases your chances of tagging a trophy buck, especially during the rut when deer are constantly on the move.

Strategic Opportunities:

We carefully place our stands and trim shooting lanes for your sit. If rifle hunting there might be scenarios where guides spot and stalk with clients.

Weather Advantage:

During the rut, fluctuating temperatures trigger increased daytime movement. Winter weather patterns during late-season hunts push deer toward our carefully managed food plots. As temperatures drop, whitetails become more predictable, increasing the chances of encountering a mature buck.

Kansas Whitetail Hunting Compared to Other States

South Dakota Whitetail Hunting vs Kansas

Get to 10 Gauge from South Dakota

Similarities

  • South Dakota and Kansas produce large-bodied whitetails with impressive antler potential due to solid genetics and relatively low hunting pressure, especially on private land.
  • The landscape of both states features a mixture of river bottoms, agricultural fields, and rolling prairies that provide excellent habitat for whitetail deer.
  • Both states offer excellent archery hunting with long seasons that usually fall during the rut.

Differences

  • In South Dakota non-resident rifle tags are distributed through a lottery system, making them harder to draw. Kansas uses a draw system with the odds of drawing relatively good.
  • The combination of excellent habitat, mild winters, and age-class management lead to larger deer in Kansas.
  • Kansas is consistently producing high numbers of Boone & Crockett bucks. South Dakota has harsh winters which affect deer survival rate and antler growth.

North Dakota Whitetail Hunting vs Kansas

Get to 10 Gauge from North Dakota

Similarities

  • Both states produce solid whitetails thanks to quality genetics, rich food sources, and relatively mild hunting pressure compared to states like Wisconsin or Michigan.
  • Due to the open landscapes in both states, hunters can use spot-and-stalk tactics in addition to traditional stand hunting.
  • The rut peaks in early to mid-November in both states, making this the best time to target mature bucks.

Differences

  • Kansas has less public land than North Dakota, which benefits our clients by reducing competition for drawing a tag.
  • North Dakota’s winters are significantly harsher, affecting deer survival rates and making late-season hunts especially challenging.
  • North Dakota has a lower whitetail density due to the presence of mule deer sharing the habitat, especially on the western side of the state.

Iowa Whitetail Hunting vs Kansas

Get to 10 Gauge from Iowa

Similarities

  • Iowa and Kansas produce some of the biggest bucks in the country, with strong genetics and quality habitat.
  • The abundance of corn and soybean crops in both states provides excellent food sources and cover for mature bucks.
  • In both states archery season falls over the rut, increasing your odds of harvesting a mature buck.

Differences

  • Non-residents applying to hunt in Iowa can expect to wait 3-4 years to draw a rifle tag, making it much harder to access.
  •  Hunting in Iowa can become more difficult due to deep snow and extreme temperatures.
  • Kansas offers open terrain with rolling plains and less overall timber, making it easier to pattern whitetails.

2024 Kansas Whitetail Hunting Season Recap

The 2024 season demonstrated remarkable hunting conditions:

  • Throughout the season, we experienced a steady decline in temperature and rainfall that influenced deer movement, ensuring plenty of action for clients.
  • By maintaining our habitat and limiting the number of clients we accommodate, we reduced pressure on our deer, encouraging them to stay in the area.
  • Our rifle hunts yielded a 90% success rate, while our archery hunts had a 70% success rate.

Looking ahead, the 2025 season is set to build on this momentum, promising even greater Whitetail Hunting adventures in the heart of Kansas. Book your trip with 10 Gauge Outfitters today to secure your whitetail hunt for another unforgettable year.
