Kansas Quail Hunting

Kansas Quail Hunts at 10 Gauge Outfitters

At 10 Gauge Outfitters we offer a quality quail hunting experience in combination with our pheasant hunts. These fast flying game birds, lots of action and quick shooting present a challenge for even the most seasoned upland hunter. The adrenaline that a client can experience when one of our German Shorthairs lock up on a quail covey followed by the rush of the flush is remarkable!

Kansas is one of the few hidden gems that has an abundance of bobwhite quail. Our upland bird habitat management allows us to offer natural grounds with a strong quail population. 10 Gauge Outfitters has over 5,000 acres of a mixture of native Kansas pasture, watering holes and plum brush throughout. We focus on making an ideal habitat for the quail to provide the ultimate environment for fun-filled quail hunting in Kansas.

Our Quail Hunts

At 10 Gauge Outfitters we offer quail hunts only for our pheasant hunting clients. We do not offer stand alone quail hunting at this time for a variety of reasons. The most important reason is to have a control on the covey’s and keep from over running our ground with hunters. We want to ensure our guests get the maximum experience hunting quail here in Kansas.

My group recently visited this place for three days and if you are looking for a place to go on a guided upland quail or pheasant hunt, this place is for you. From the lodge to the guides, everything was top notch. The food was outstanding thanks to their amazing cook. The best part of all was watching the dogs work their skills in the field to help us get our limit of birds on every hunt. Big thanks to Tim and the staff. Great job guys looking forward to next season.” –  Josh Drake

    A Typical Quail Hunt

A typical afternoon of quail hunting with 10 Gauge Outfitters begins shortly after your morning pheasant hunt. After lunch at the lodge, we will gather up everyone participating in the quail hunt to head to the fields. These hunts will take place on private land specifically managed for our quail hunting.

Once arriving at the field, we all gather in the UTV to begin our journey following the dogs. Once dogs go on point on a covey of quail, we will organize the hunters into position and release the flushing dog. The rise these quick flying quail that bust from safety will challenge even the best of shooters. With a limit of 8 birds per person you will get plenty of action throughout the afternoon. Once the group has shot their limit we then venture back to the lodge for our evening meal and relaxation.

    Get Your Hunting Checklist

      Hunting Checklist

The essentials for our Kansas quail hunts include:

      • Shotgun – 12 or 20ga. semi auto (12ga. preferred)
      • Ammo – high brass #8 – unplugged & extensions are legal to use
      • Hunting pants, field boots, cap & vest
      • Cooler for your birds to transport home
      • House shoes – slippers. No boots or shoes in the lodge, mudroom only.

      What to Wear

Hunting or “field pants” are highly recommended, especially those with canvas-faced fronts. Comfortable field boots, especially durable leather boots, help feet trudge through fields. Blaze orange hat or cap helps with field safety and of course blocks the sun. A hunting vest with blaze orange material holds harvested game birds, shotgun shells, water bottles, and other accessories such as gloves and sunglasses.

      Our Dogs & Your Dogs

Our dogs are professionally trained and handled. While we would love to see your dog in action, with the dogs we have in the field and around the lodge we respectfully ask clients to leave them at home. We want everyone to have an enjoyable time in the field, there will be plenty of shooting and our dogs are used to this atmosphere daily.
